The “8th Annual Abby’s Closet Prom Gown Giveaway” will be held on March 10-11, 2012 (Saturday, 8am-5pm; Sunday, 10am-2pm) at the DoubleTree Hotel Exhibit Hall-Lloyd Center.
The gowns are given away, FREE, to high school woman. The only requirement is that the students show a high school ID card. As young women arrive, they are given a numbered ticket and told the appropriate time they will be able to enter the Salon. As they are waiting in line, raffles are held periodically and the winners are given prizes (ex. gift certificates, small gifts, etc.). Once the young women enter the Salon, there are plenty of adult volunteers to help them find the perfect gown. Over 250 volunteers helped at last year’s event. The donated gowns are grouped in “Salons” by size and color. Last year, there were over 7,000 gowns to choose from. After a gown is selected, the guests are able to select an accessory item (ex. purse, wrap, jewelry) and are given some small personal items that have been donated (ex. perfume and make-up samples).
Flyers and further information about the giveaway event are mailed to local high schools in February. Any high school student is invited to attend. For further information, visit the FAQ section of this website.
