Dreams Scholarship - Frequently asked questions

What information do I need to complete the Dreams Scholarship application? +

In addition to answering the Dreams Scholarship Application questions regarding past activities and achievements, we require that applicants submit contact information for two references (one school reference and one personal reference).

Do I need to submit a copy of my transcript with my application? +

No, you do not need to submit a copy of your transcript with your application, but you do need to certify that you have read and meet the scholarship requirements, including your GPA. If you are a finalist, we will be confirming with your school that your cumulative GPA is at least 2.50.

Why am I unable to fill out the online application form? +

If you get an error message, email dreams@abbyscloset.org. You can also complete the application as a document if needed. Email your intention to dreams@abbyscloset.org, and email your completed application back by the application deadline.

How will the scholarship award be disbursed? +

A check for the scholarship award will be mailed directly to the school once the student has enrolled and provides a Student ID # and bursar’s contact information and address. If the school’s contact information is not provided to Abby’s Closet by July 1, 2026, the award may be forfeited.

Can an undocumented student apply? +

Yes. The guidelines do not specify that you need to be a US citizen.

Will our responses to the questions be shared or put online in any way? +

No

Can I apply if I graduated from high school last year but took a gap year? +

No. The requirements state that you need to be graduating from high school in 2026.

Can I apply if I graduated from high school a few years ago, but am now entering nursing school? +

No. The requirements state you need to be graduating from high school in 2026.

Can I apply if I am unable to attend the prom dress giveaway? +

We hope that award winners will attend the giveaway at the Oregon Convention Center on Saturday, March 7, 2026. Please notify Abby’s Closet if you are unable to attend.

Would I qualify for the scholarship if I am in the process of transitioning to a female? +

Yes. This scholarship is open to any graduating high school student who identifies as female.

How do I qualify for the Elaine A. Davis Memorial Scholarship? +

All applicants who are planning on pursuing education in a healthcare field are eligible and will be considered for this scholarship. Those who are not selected to receive the Davis Scholarship will still be considered for the scholarship for the type of school they will be entering, i.e. trade, community college or 4-year college/university. A student will NOT be awarded two scholarships from Abby’s Closet.

What happens if I am awarded the Davis Scholarship but change my plans and will not be pursuing a career in a healthcare field? +

You would need to forfeit the scholarship, and it will be awarded to another student.

What if I receive the award and then decide not to enter that specific school, i.e. trade school, community college, or 4-year university/college? +

You would need to forfeit the scholarship, and it will be awarded to another student.
